Focus and Calm - Seniors (Grades 6 to 8)
Ten parts on attention under real workload: study routines, phone habits, pressure before a test, and what to do when you get stuck. Skills language throughout, not wellness language.
Who it is for
Grades 6 to 8. Students facing genuine homework load, exam pressure, or the growing sense that their attention is being taken by something designed to take it.
The ten parts
- Where Does It Go? Tracking attention honestly across two sessions at different times of day
- The First Two Minutes Why starting is harder than continuing, and three ways past it
- Working In Chunks Finding your own number rather than a famous one
- Setting Up To Succeed Auditing the space and measuring what changed
- The Phone Problem Screen time faced honestly, then one rule tested for a week
- Settling Down Five techniques rated properly, and tested again when actually wound up
- Before Something Hard A ten minute routine for before a test or presentation
- When You Get Stuck Telling apart not understanding, being tired, and avoiding a decision
- Making It Stick Attaching two habits to something that already happens
- Your Toolkit Their own page, including what they dropped and why
What makes this the harder edition
Students test techniques on a day they are genuinely wound up rather than calm, because something that works when you are already fine is not much use. They estimate how many work chunks a real piece of homework takes, and turn off every notification except direct messages for a week to find out what they actually missed.
A note on what this is
It treats everyday distraction and everyday nerves as skills to practise. It is not an assessment and it is not treatment, and the book says so to the adult on the first page, along with when to raise something with a doctor or teacher.
